Hypergolic
Hypergolic propellant is a type of fuel where the fuel and the oxidizer react on contact. Most are stable at room temperature but highly toxic.
Common Types
See below for definitions and chemical equations.
- UDMH + Dinitrogen Tetroxide
- Aerozine 50 + Dinitrogen Tetroxide
- Monomethylhydrazine + NTO
- Monomethylhydrazine + Dinitrogen Tetroxide
Chemical Equations
Hydrazine = N2H4
Unsymmetrical Dimethylhydrazine "UDMH" = H2NN(CH3)2
Nitrogen Tetroxide "NTO" = NO4
Dinitrogen Tetroxide = N2O4
Aerozine 50 = 50% Hydrazine and 50% UDMH
Monomethylhydrazine = CH3(NH)NH2
